The Club was formed by a group of outdoor enthusiasts in Cardiff in 1935. Eventually a plot of land was identified east of Cardiff and was rented for £15 p.a. The club functioned as a naturist retreat until interrupted by the war.
In 1941 the site was requisitioned by the War Agricultural Committee (we believe it was used by the Land Army girls) and a new plot was eventually identified for use by Western Sun Folk some 3 miles away, the present club site. This was duly leased for £23 p.a. After the war the War Agricultural Committee agreed to compensate the club by £10 pa. for the loss of use of the land. The old pavilion was moved to the new plot in 1947 (reputedly with the help of some German POWs), where it is still in use today, as a Teenagers' Pavilion.
The present swimming pool started as a stream-fed muddy pond (there were no environmental health inspectors to contend with then) so no doubt we shared it with the abundant local frogs and newts. It then acquired a concrete lining and the old swimming pool was constructed about 1967. During the winter of 2003/4 the pool was enlarged, lined and the surrounding area given a major upgrade.
